several does have been nest building and pulling fur for a week now. Tomorrow is the day I have marked on the calendar. One doe that I palpated, and actually felt kits, hasn't done a single thing but eat and lay around. she's my big fat broken black meat doe. all but two of these does are first timers. I almost think the two experienced does missed this round.
the doe whose kits were half eaten, was sick for two days. yesterday her last four kits were dead. she peed on them and I think they froze. then she died.
the lop-ish doe, who had five kits, is an awesome lil' mama. she has five babies and they are the fattest and cleanest of any of the kits in the barn. I cleaned out their box today and gave them a bigger one. four of them are agouti colored (I think that's what it's called), and one is a light silvery color.
my californian doe kindled 10, two of which died or were still born. one was found outside the cage, dead. the remaining seven are fat, sassy, and adorable. weirdly enough, several are californian marked and a few just look like REW New Zealands. The buck she was bred to was a mixed breed cali/cross.
On saturday I get to take a road trip, to pick up my four new Silver Fox. I am getting a blue doe named Lichen, a black doe named Licorice, a Black buck named Mowgli, and a young buck that is un-named. I also have one more doe that I purchased, but she is due to kindle any day, so I'm leaving her there til the kits are weaned. Her name is Marnie.

Overall it sounds like things are going pretty well- sorry for your losses, but at least you have some nice healthy popples to play with.

I bet Saturday can't come quickly enough. Be sure to post pics of the new additions... what a great start to your Silver Fox herd!
