Every once in a while I do a Google news search on "rabbit". Here's what I came up with this week:
Man tries to use "cooked rabbit" as a cover for bricks of cocaine—http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE7035SC20110104
"White Blindness" epidemic in Melbourne rabbits— http://www.smh.com.au/victoria/mosq...ping-off-backyard-bunnies-20110108-19jgl.html
Southern Australia braces for one of the worst rabbit plagues on record— http://www.canberratimes.com.au/new...mid-fears-of-worst-rabbit-plague/2042807.aspx
Karotz Smart Rabbit won't poo in your house— http://walyou.com/karotz-rabbit-robot-ces/
Animal activists caution against Year of the Rabbit pet craze— http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/front/archives/2011/01/09/2003493041
Calcivirus losing its edge as a means of wild rabbit control, researchers want to know why— http://sl.farmonline.com.au/news/st...ral/study-targets-rabbit-control/2040014.aspx
Biologists concerned for rare New England Cottontail— http://www.masslive.com/metrowest/republican/index.ssf?/base/news-30/1294044826175070.xml&coll=1
Biting bunny escapes euthanization— http://www.stcatharinesstandard.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2919661
A review of "The Rabbit Problem"— http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/01/04/AR2011010404530.html
Fur flies over rabbit refuge— http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/f...-dandenongs-rabbit-refuge-20110102-19d34.html
Wes Indies Island Nation opens slaughter facilities for poultry/rabbit— http://www.thestkittsnevisobserver.com/ ... ility.html
Rabbit meat on the upswing despite rough economy in the Tarheel state— http://foodies.blogs.starnewsonline...-catching-up-with-ron-koster-of-tarheel-beef/
And then a more tasty hit:
Finding out if they're still game, talking smack about "farmed rabbit"— http://www.thesouthernreporter.co.u...when_we_find_out_if_we_re_still_game_1_433092
Followed by the flip side:
Food Taboos— http://eatocracy.cnn.com/2011/01/07/lunchtime-poll-food-taboos/
Braised rabbit with Bacon-Sage dumpligs. OMG— http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Braised-Rabbit-with-Bacon-Sage-Dumplings-363009
Over all, I found it interesting that the vast majority of references to "rabbit" were cultural, either due to the "Year of the Rabbit" or the new Nicole Kidman movie called "Rabbit Hole". When you Google rabbit meat, however, I was pleasantly surprised to see how many hits wound up being restaurant food reviews. (So mouth watering!)
Have a good day!
