WOOHOO! It took WAY longer than we expected. With a lot of rainy days, and hubby not being able to take off early from work as much as he planned, and kids' activities, there were a lot of days we didn't make any progress at all. :x

We ended up being able to reuse the roofing panels instead of buying new, but now the roof is slanted so that it won't collect rain water. It faces the house, so not only will that help to keep the sun out of the shed, but we'll be able to watch "Rabbit TV" from our windows.

We still need to put down mulch under the cages and plant the vines that will cover the latticework, but that may have to wait until next weekend, when it will hopefully be warmer. We also need to remount the automatic watering system, rebuild the cage racks (the new ones will hold six cages each instead of two) and replace the flooring on two of the cages. College DS will be home for spring break in a week, so I'm hoping we can get all of that done then.

The best part is that once the new cage racks are finished, we'll be able to fit 18 cages instead of just ten, and I will have room to start breeding again!

Hey there! I just joined this and am not sure how fast u can get response but i need help! We are making a bunny shed to, but we would like to let bunny have the whole shed to live in without a cage or hutch. We havent got bunny yet, iv been reading about bunnys a-z for a week and have a plan layed out, but as for the floor, we are removeing pressure treated wood floor for safty, and reinstaling _________??? I have read pros and cons of concete, wood, tile, linolium, and rubber stall matting. Dirt floor with fencing under ground for safty, and so on and it seems whats good for the feet and rabbit health in support, is bad for rabbit if chewed, or unsanitary. Im stuck! I would love waterproof safe floor, can be hosed out dryed easy and lots of hay layed down to be changed frequently. But of what? I considered everything from plexiglass to concrete but so much controversy! And as for price range, we dont want to go overboard, but it has to be safe so we are open , but within reason. Any thoughts?

__________ Sun Mar 03, 2013 12:22 am __________

Of coarse we are making a covered wood box with bunny hole filed with bedding for bunny shelter within shed, just want him to come and go as he likes within shed, we r putting large fenced and screenex windows and dog gate suroundin shed for safty and place for rabbit to play with us on pretty days, we plan for a termostate to activate fan in summer when it gets hot anx heat in winter, so i think that parts ok, but also, i forgot to mention we plan to get. A mini lop and possibly a loinhead, although where some say get one rabbit, others say get two, they wouldboth be female or else female and male both spayed and neuterd, and. Both. Hi, Lilliean! :) At this time of night, there are usually very few members on. I'm sure you will get more answers tomorrow.

Lilliean's main thread is here, for those who can answer her questions: post145414.html#p145414

In order not to hijack .. Please make your own thread. Just start a new one and you will get better response.

I see MISS M did that for you already

Oh my .. I can just picture grape vines or something like that growing up all that trellis. Maybe some peas or vining beans.

Just lovely!

I'm using Confederate jasmine for the vines. It grows really well here, and has the most heavenly-scented white flowers in the late spring through early fall. Last year I had some grapevines in addition to the jasmine on the old shed, but I think the cold weather (yes, even here in SE Texas) killed the grapevines.

So awesome! I love that idea for the TX climate.

Must be some wierd grapevine-- We have huge vineyards here-- they NEED the cold to cycle properly! One of the busiest seasons for picking, if the weather co-operates, is AFTER a frost-- the grapes are picked after they freeze on the vine, and are used to make "Ice Wine" needless to say-- they have tobe picked and processiing started BEfore they have a chance to thaw and start spoiling..

It may have been the fact that I had them in containers instead of in the ground. I wanted to be able to take them with me when we move out of here. I've already resigned myself to planting the jasmine in the ground and just digging it up when we move (the area will be turned into a flower bed), so maybe I'll give the grapes another try.

It looks great! Room for more bunnies....yay! :bunnyhop:

Wow, that's exactly what I was looking for! Would it be possible to post dimensions and about what it cost to build? I'm putting together a shopping list! :p
