Hi all, sorry I've been MIA for a few days. I was on a little girl's getaway, which was GLORIOUS!! But because of being gone my husband had the job of picking up our two new (and first ever) American Fuzzy Lops. So I came home to two new babies! :)

I think I said before how I got them for a great deal because the woman was getting out of them to concentrate on her other breeds. She admittedly hadn't been taking care of their coats. So I also came home to a matted mess!!Also they haven't been handled much at all. Yikes!

We got an orange buck who is 3 months old. (Gonzo) He was so matted, I just scissor cut is whole coat off. He looks so silly now, but feels SOOOO much better. He was quite cranky at first but warmed up to us after his hair cut. Also, I'm pretty sure he's not been flipped like EVER. He HATED it. But after a few times of showing him who the boss is around here, he's doing much better. I love his head and can't wait to see what his coat looks like after it comes back in.

This picture is the one the breeder sent me. And before his haircut

This is after his haircut. He's in the process of cleaning his feet :)

We also got a broken sable doe who is 8 weeks old. (Gloria) She was just a bit matted and I got most of them out with just some combing and plucking. She was so tolerant and such a sweetheart!! I was surprised. I'm a bit worried that her head might be too small, but she's still SOOO young, so we'll wait and see.

Here is the picture the breeder sent me

And one of her at my house. I'm a bit worried she might not have enough color to show, but again, we'll see after her new coat comes in.

Sorry about the horrible pics, but my camera is broken, so I"m just working with my camera phone.
Also, these are just they're TEMPORARY cages

Aww- they are adorable!

Poor little buck, he looks pretty affronted by his haircut... "Where's a good old-fashioned barber when you need one? I thought bowl haircuts were bad, but this! Hmmph!"

He's definitely not thrilled.

But just think how handsome he will look when his new coat comes in! :D

By the way, did you check for flaky skin where he was badly matted? Often the skin is in pretty poor condition due to lack of air and proper blood circulation. I like to use a flea-comb to remove it. Brushing him will also stimulate blood flow and spread his natural oils through his coat.

He did have some dry skin. I got most of it of with my tiniest comb. He is finally starting to tolerate the brushing. I think he's going to like it once he gets used to it. Thanks! :)

They're adorable!!!!

Side note: not familiar with fuzzies but with my EA I try to keep them off of hay/shavings because it helps them mat easier.

Have fun with ur fuzz-butts

How's your fuzzies doing? Such sweet rabbits. Is Gizmo getting a bit more friendly since your husband has been helping? My husband has helped me calm a few down too. My Dobby was my first one that my husband help calm down.

Thanks for asking! They're doing great! Gonzo has calmed down immensely. And his coat is coming in nicely. I can't wait to get them out of those cages. They're such a pain. I'm still on the lookout!

Have you considered just buying some floor wire and attaching it to the wire frame? Then you could either hang them without the pan, or keep them as is... at least they would be elevated above their waste and bedding.

Yes, and I'll have to do that if I don't find something soon. But those cages are such a pain to clean!! ugh. I have a line on a couple today. Hopefully I'll find some. Thanks!!

__________ Wed Aug 15, 2012 8:18 am __________

See? Gonzo is learning to behave :)
