I think that would mess up the fur, we marked both ear with sharpie. You have to renew it every few days....
 
I did the sharpie on the ear recently, and it was fine, momma accepted the new little one into her litter. I have one weanling right now, that I've marked since birth with an X on her ear. She's been marked as a keeper (for sentimental reasons :) ), and I call her Little X. :lol: Shannon is right, it does wear off, and you need to reapply now and again, but it's worked.
 
thanks for the sharpie & food coloring suggestions. I hadn't thought of the food coloring but its an intriguing idea. I'm going to try both and see which lasts longer. I'll report back if the little guy makes it. He's tucked into my camisole right now as I type. It feels a little like the fluttering I remember from my own pregnancies, only Higher up. Guess I'll never be over my baby lust :)
 
WIldlife rehabbers will use nail [polish, but the kind that dog groomers use-- and yes, the color and location are the identifiers!!!
