How old do the kits have to be before they are tattoo'ed? I was thinking about doing it at 6-8 weeks. Is this too soon? When do you do it?

Thanks
Rachel

I try to do it around eight-twelve weeks, but it depends when I wean them. I try to give them a break right after separating them since that is already a difficult time for their little growing bodies, but I make sure they are done by the time the first go to their new homes or I tend to forget until right before the show with my keepers. Then it is a pain in their ear and my backside. :)

I tattoo my rabbits when I wean them or shortly after.
I also assess the Kits at that time so I know roughly
which ones I may want to retain as future members of the herd
or potential sales. I keep a written record and re-assess the kits
when I make my final decision as to who will stay and
who will be finding a new location.
As long as the ear is long enough to hold a tattoo
the rabbit has a very good chance of being tattooed.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

I did my last litter at 8 weeks. All the future ones will be done at 6 weeks when I ***** the babies and send the culls off to the pet store.
