I took my american sable seal buck and crossed him to my creme d'argent doe along with 2 american sable sables and a pointed white. I found a litter today and while trying to determine who's it was I pulled out a tort. Tort? Where did tort come from? I know creme is ee so that's easy but why is my seal carrying e? I'm thinking of emailing the breeder to see if they've gotten any sable points before because that's what you'd get if you put tort genes on sable. You just never know what they are going to throw at you.

So true. i would not be surprised if someone threw the odd black/REW/himi to get sable from a seal for lack of breeding partners. I'm breeding my Cal to all of my otters and blacks, because I only have one of each. I hope that will not cause me too many problems in the future. I dare not breed the Seal to anything but the Cal, because I have a barn full of dilutes.

I hate surpises in the nest box which is one of the reasons I picked American Chinchillas. However, I recently discovered my most expensive purebred AmChin carries an 'e' and I am a bit worried about how purebred she really is. I now need to worry about her kits getting it and having frosties if bred to a buck with one.
