Actually got these last weekend but I haven't had time to take pics and post. I'm not planning to be the best standard chin breeder but aside from using for meat I think I might actually show them and try to sell some. My selection criteria was a little different than the breeder's since they do have a purpose as meat rabbits. I wanted amchins but it's just as far to get those and I was going to Minnesota anyway.

So here's my 3month old buck. His shoulders don't look as bad in photo as they seemed while fighting with him to sit still. He had a problem with a hyper, barking puppy and 2 curious large dogs circling around him. The breeder wanted me to take his brother but when I went to handle him he refused to do anything but lay flat and he bit me. I don't need more biting rabbits.

Then I got this little junior doe. I smashed her head in a bit while taking photos but she does actually have a nice, short shoulder that I hope she keeps.

I was told bronzing when they are young often means they have very good color when mature.

Sadly the moving truck seems to have eaten my scale. I can't find it anywhere. Standards top out at I think 7 lbs ( my sop is missing too ).

__________ Fri Sep 05, 2014 2:11 pm __________

Found the pedigrees. Doe is 7weeks with a 5lb 4oz sire and 7lb 6oz dam. Buck has mostly ancestors of 6lbs plus a few ounces here and there. He's a little gangly if you handle him in person but I liked his depth and aside from potentially a little undercut his hindquarters are nicely filled out. I'm just hoping his shoulders bulk up a bit. The standard chins have seriously large ears. I've had all netherlands for the past 2 years.

I thought the ears looked huge too!
I didn't realize that standard chins were such small rabbits.

The standards are very compact. Like slightly large dutch. I'm thinking space, feed efficiency, and faster maturity will pay off. That and the $200 extra I did not pay in gas to get them.

I'm becoming a fan of medium sized meat buns too. My 7 - 8 1/2 lb. mutt does seem to do just as well on a backyard level as the heavier 10-12 lb SF and NZs. Actually, since I'm not breeding them intensively, the smaller does tend to do a bit better in the long run. They don't get too fat between litters.

Doe is still a bit small but most of her type is good. I'm not sure if her feet are so splayed because the wood table is slick (i need to get a suitable stand) or if it is a conformation flaw.

I think the buck's shoulders have bulked a bit.

Bred the buck to a chinchilla mini lop i got in trade that is not so mini. She might be bigger than him. Nestbox goes in the 10th. I probably won't breed the chinchilla doe until late winter for a spring litter.
