When I took our Lilac to the vet last week I also enquired about spaying and neutering costs so I can pass that info on to people we give our rabbits to as pets. I remember paying $75-$90 for spaying and neutering our house rabbits about 13-14 years ago. They said it was $225 for bucks and $250 for does. I was kinda shocked by that. This is the only vets in our area I trust completely with rabbits, they deal with them a lot as well as handle our area zoo. So I'm wondering if the prestige of it is what's costing so much or if this is just the going rate nowadays.

pretty much standard, $175-250, in los angeles

Well LA, San Fran, Chicago, I would expect that. But we aren't exactly in a major metro area.

the closes vet around me, that deals with rabbits. Is 45 miles away. He has a little office
out in the country. His general price is $75.00 to $100.00 either sex. it depends on the size of the rabbit.
You gotta love the old country vets.

$300-350 in my area,... but then doing a cat costs about that as well once you work in previsit, meds etc.

neutered a buck for 50 euros.
if you know a farmanimal vet, they can do it too for you and usually for much cheaper.

It's just rough because I want to encourage people we give our rabbits to neuter/spay them if they are going to keep them as a companion animal. It's a hard pill to swallow when you tell them with appropriate cage and food and spay/neuter you're looking at $300 despite the fact the rabbit is free.

My vet is $80 for a male and $130 for a female(same prices for cats), the Vets in the city(20 mins away) are close to 3x that.

Holy cow! Well I guess I can see why more people don't spay and neuter.

My cat cost $70 to neuter, I'm thinking it would cost a bit more for a rabbit. But not $200!

Speaking of cows, my neighbor just had a vet come out and charged $7 to neuter their cow. Now that's a deal.

It cost me about 200$ to get my dog neutered, maybe a bit more. With pre-vet visit, plus his microchip, the whole ordeal cost me somewhere in the region of 350$. When I called around to find out about spaying a doe, I was quoted anywhere from 200 - 400$

Neuter their cow?????

It must have been a bull calf for that price. I'm sure he did it the "cowboy way" and just roped the calf, slit the scrotum, and cut the spermatic cord.

"Neuter" means to remove the reproductive organs (it is Latin for "neither", so we are rendering them neither male nor female in the reproductive sense), but in common vernacular it is used when referencing male animals. However, neuter applies to both.

The correct terms are "castration" for males and "ovario-hysterectomy" for females... but most people use "spay" for females, and "neuter" for males. :)

New here!

I just had my two altered last month--here in A-Tex

It was $314.00 for the female (incl. a nail trim) and $250.00 for the male (incl the nail trim). I could have had both done for $100.00 less/per rabbit by opting against pre-screening blood work ($60.00 each) and additional IV fluids ($40.00 each).

It was a bit of sticker shock--I even called all of the rescues looking for coupons/vouchers/etc.--but no go.

it cost us 250 for each of our rabbits ( at the time we had two) if anyone knows any vets cheeper in wichita ks or the surrounding area let me know please lol
