OK this is wierd.. mama rabbit has sores on her left foot but on the SIDE of the foot. I clean it and added antibiotics. cleaned the cage and cleaned the tiles she sits on. I've taken extra care to prevent this, but still. Would it be due to the babies (5 wks) that are living with her or what? I'm confused on how she got this. anyone else have had this problem? I could use the HELP!!!

I had one get this when there was an older litter in with her. The babies are probably hogging the resting spots. Once you wean them and they are out of the cage, they will likely get better. Put a layer of hay in the cage if you want, that should help....

I will go do that right now!!!! it's on the inside of the left foot, which confuses me more. can I wean 5 wks old babies now?

Sure you can, I wean mine at 4 wks...actually, by then mama has already weaned them pretty much herself. You could just take out half the litter, the bigger ones. Then take the rest out in a week or so. I usually just take them all out at once...I am sure some others do it different, but it works for me.

ok I only have 3 but I can take out the biggest baby tomorrow and leave the 2 until wed, then sat 1. That way it will be a week weaning off process. Awesome I'm glad to know that, I feel so horrible for mama right now and her foot.

Hope your bun's foot heals up quickly! If things don't seem to be completely clearing up with the antibiotic, you can try athlete's foot cream to kill any fungal infection trying to take root. :)

SOAK the foot, the built up skin can sometimes hide a puss pocket, then I wrap the foot with coban to keep the dressing in place and the ointment on it.

ok. I keep mom in the house today. it does look a bit better, not red but pink. I added more ointment before putting her back in her cage for the night.

good thing to note that it's not causing her to much pain. she's resting, eatting and drinking just fine. thanks goodness!!!!
