With the aim of replacing my not-very-friendly doe once her kits are weaned (assuming she's still doing the lunge and bite thing), I bought myself two new buns, a buck and a doe from different lines the breeder had going. But.. I'm not clear on bunny genetics yet so I have some noob questions :D

Blackie.. what colour is he? He's an NWZ cross meat mutt thing. Do NZW or Cali normally carry this colour?

Second noob question..
What colours would I get if I cross Blackie with the new doe (Stripey, the English Spot cross meat mutt in the pic)

Some reading seems to suggest I would get mostly blacks, is that correct?

No, you should get mostly chestnut and broken chestnut.

Blackie is either a very light chinchilla (= A_ B_ cchd_ D_ E_ enen ) or a very dark Frosty (= A_ B_ cchd_ D_ ee enen) and it is very rare for a NZ and impossible for a Californian to be this colour.

Stripey looks like a broken black ( = aa B_ C_ D_ E_ ENen) and statistically 50% of her kits will also be broken or she could be a broken black Charlie (= aa B_ C_ D_ E_ ENEN) and 100% of her kits with Blackie will be broken.

There are quite a few blanks in their genotype, if you have any information on their parents, litter mates or offsprings colours it could help fill these in.

Although you will most likely get chestnuts and broken chestnut, you could also get blacks, broken blacks, whites, fawn and others all depending on the unknown colour genes they carry.

Blackie's litter mates were quite varied. There was another like him, an agouti, an agouti with a lot of red tinge to the coat and two REW. Parentage- NZW x ? (gingery-red doe) and probably a NZW REW (although the breeder has siamese sables and himi rabbits around, she couldn't remember sire).
Of Stripey's litter, a few broken bucks, Stripey and a REW. For her parentage, an English Spot x ? and a REW NZW.

Alright, with this info I think Blackie is actually a frosty who likely carries REW but not self
= AA B_ cchd c D_ ee

BUT

With the possible siamese sable he could be a what we call a Shagouti A_ B_ cchl_ D_ E_ :)

And Stripey likely carries the REW gene as well.
= aa B_ Cc D_ E_ EN_

There is not much more we can fill in until the kits are born

You will still likely have agouti (called chestnut over here) broken agouti and REW

Thanks for the help :D Now, just have to wait about 10 weeks to find out a bit more!
Trying to figure out what I have hasn't been easy, as the previous breeder kept no real records of what was bred to what or where anything came from :wall: From my grumpy doe (the gingery red one), I have nine surviving babies, five are an odd, smutty black (black but with little snips of agouti here and there) and then four greyish-blues, one of which looks different from the others. They're just shy of 3 weeks old, is that old enough to confirm a colour?
I guess my aim is to try to retain that chin/frosty colouring if possible, using what I have (again, if possible) and then working on improving other traits once I have that part sorted out.

I just looked at your other pictures on the 'broken leg' thread.

Those greyish kits are siamese sable and the others look black but if you post a good picture of them now I may be able to figure out the colour. A picture of the mom would help too but I understand d she arrived pregnant so no idea on the dad.

The best pictures for colour ID are from outside on an overcast day or in slight shade to show a rabbits true colour.
