My best friend co runs a 4H group and they have a smashing bunny barn. Only problem is, random rabbits keep showing up in their cages!

No such thing as asking if they can live there, just abandoned.

So I agreed to sell this latest one as it looks a bit special but, anyone guess what it is?

My guess is Angora mixed with Californian. She is a BIG girl, between 8 to 10 pounds with HEAPS of fur on top. But the fur feels more like silk rather than fluff, if you know what I mean? And having NOT been brushed for at least a month she is only matted on her bum with several not too big mats rather than one huge one. No matts on top or her sides and I couldn't feel any underneath her either.

Very odd fur but it sure feels nice.

And her eyes are odd, the pupils seem to point up and back but I know she can see me.

So far she is easy to handle and my daughter has fallen for her like a ton of bricks  if she stays gentle I can see having to shell out for another useless rabbit

Looks like a French Angora to me. Actually she looks a lot like my monster doe, Nosey. :) Hard to tell for sure without being able to feel her over, though.

And that is ridiculous, people dumping animals like that!

Eh? What should I be feeling for exactly?

The texture of a French Angora coat is a lot different than, say, an English. At least to me anyways. My Frenchies don't mat up much either, except in the buttparts, they're so much easier to care for. I'm willing to wager she's a French Angora though, not necessarily a mix...while I don't think she's an 'accepted' color for a French Angora, they can and do come in pointed varieties (my Nosey is a pointed Angora for example) and I think the red eyed thing can be explained by genetics within the breed. Not sure on that one though, I'm not the best at color genetics.

When I stroke my hand down her back going with the hair it feels like a raw silk shirt, if that makes any sense?

And she brought the rain! What a good bunny she is

__________ Wed Feb 13, 2013 6:10 pm __________

Have read up a bit on French Angora rabbits............

WOW! How cool are THEY? Meat and fantastic fur all in one package.

Why one earth would one just be left in the rabbit barn???

I just dont get people, I really dont!

I would put a sign on the barn that abandoned rabbits will be used for food. That would cut down on random rabbits showing up.

Angoras do have pointed white in \the breed, which is the same as Californian. Pointed white/Cal rabbits have Red eyes.

Oh isn't she a beauty! Wish I was closer! lol

As far as people dumping pets. When it comes to rabbits, I'd much rather have them "dump" their pet at a known rabbit 4-Her than just dump them "on the streets". Just my opinion though and YMMV.

Kind of what I was just thinking. :(

I have people who dump kittens on my screened porch and dogs in my backyard. I have considered posturing a signaling all animals dumped go to pound. I take good care of my animals and don't want them exposed to worm and such.

That was my thought exactly.
