I had to cull a 4 week old kit tonight, and I'm at a complete loss as to why.

I was grooming my angoras and I heard a squelching noise. I looked and found one of my Rex kits with green mucus like discharge coming from both its mouth and nose. It was actually choking to death on it's own... Well I don't know what to call it. I immediately grabbed the kit and culled it so it wouldn't have to suffer choking to death.

Weirdest thing ever, all the intern organs looked normal, except for the stomach, which looked enlarged to me. I thought I might have felt a blockage in the stomach (didn't open it, don't know why...), but if so, it must have been very recent as there was still a lot of food digesting in the intestines as well as perfect formed pellets. (I will post pics as soon as I get them from my phone.)

When the autopsy was over I went on a mission to wipe up any of the gunk that the kit spit out. I didn't get a pic of it, but although it was mucus like in consistency, it actually was partially digested food. What the hell? I know rabbits can't regurgitate, so, it it possible that an sudden blockage would combined with them eating/drinking lead to some sort of violent reaction like that?

I'm at a complete loss for words on his one.

Help?

Only toward the end on the left. The rest was not as squishy as I though was normal, but it certainly wasn't as hard as the other end. Felt like a cat hairball. ( stepped on and had to pick up a few of those in my time...)

That is so strange... :( And horrible. Good quick thinking there... you saved that poor kit a scary, horrific death.

All I know is that in rabbits, stuff is not supposed to travel in that direction. And if it does, it's because something has gone terribly wrong.
