I'm not sure what's going on with him other than I know he's just not right. I often give my rabbits cardboard boxes to play with and had given this fellow one a little over a week ago. I noticed that last Thursday he was spending a lot of time in his box only to realize late Friday that it was All the time. Not even getting out to eliminate or eat/drink. He has lost some weight and condition, His spine is sticking out more than it should as well has his hip bones.

I took the box out that Friday evening and checked early Saturday to see if he had moved around, drank or ate - he had not so I gave him some hay which he did nibble (he has access to hay via a feeder, this hay I placed directly in his cage). Sunday morning his water bottle was still full and so was his j feeder. Still not moving around much either. So I put him in a grazing cage on wet grass and he spent the next two hours happily eating dew covered grass and grooming. He wasn't frisky but he did act more normal. I placed a water crock in his cage to see if he would drink from that and this morning it was empty. He's still not eating pellets but will nibble hay and eat any greens I give him. His poop looks to be of normal size and firmness with no wool - just less of them - but he's not eating much. I haven't noticed much urine either. Other than the loss of weight and his depression he looks normal, no snot, sneezing, or heavy breathing... his eyes were a little squinty this morning but I was shining a flashlight at him. He's normally a very social guy and loves to be petted, the type that runs to the cage door for pets and treats - but right now he just sits like a bunny loaf and hardly even acknowledges I'm there.

I'm just not sure what's wrong - It's hard to fix something when you don't have many clues.

First check that the water bottle is working

second feed him what he wants to eat. if it's greens, then give him greens. not ideal...but if it will kick start him use what he'll eat.

he seems to be acting like a rabbit with gut stasis.
I would not advise using him for breeding, but if he's a pet and you can get him to pull through WOOT WOOT. :)

Your clue is the empty water crock. He is dehydrated. Did you check to see if the valve on the water bottle was working properly?

I had the same thing happen with one of my "Leonis Rex" kits when I moved her from the growout cage back to the BunnyBarn. Weight loss, lethargy... turns out she never found the valve in the water line and wasn't drinking. She now has a crock and is almost back to normal weight.

Just last night as I was doing my rounds of feeding, I noticed two does in a growout cage were looking very thin. I have large buckets of water in each of my growout cages with a stem valve. When I checked the valve stem, no water came out. Turns out the valve was clogged, so despite having a bucket of water they couldn't drink at all.

I immediately gave them a bowl of water which they quickly drank, and then cleaned the valve and refilled their bucket.

Oh no!

I'm sorry. I have no idea what is causing the problem if it wasn't lack of water.

How does his tummy feel? hard, lumpy, bloated?

from his chest down is enlarged - not rock hard but bloated, feels like it's painful. Very small fecal pellets and only a half-a-dollar sized wet spot this morning.

I rubbed his guts this morning and put him back in the grazing cage. I'm hoping he'll be encouraged to move and eat (he was nibbling when I left for work) My husband is home today so he'll keep an eye on Floppy. I have the husband the green light to euthanize if he feels it needs to be done but I told him I'd like to give him at least one more day.

I'm wondering if he might have an obstruction - if so I guess it's up to Floppy to get over this.

Sounds like it could very well be an obstruction. Maybe you can tempt him to eat fresh pineapple, or oats coated with blackstrap molasses. Fresh pineapple has enzymes that can break up hair. I'd remove the pellets for now.

You may be able to syringe some Gatorade into him. Fruit punch flavor worked well for me, to get a non-drinking rabbit to drink. I actually gave it to him full-strength for the first day, to make sure and get plenty of electrolytes into him. I pushed the plunger slowly as I held him in my lap, and he lapped it straight from the tip. I couldn't get him to drink from his crock, but he did do this. I diluted it over the next several days, and he went back to drinking from his crock.

That wasn't obstruction, but it still might work.

Putting him in a box on top of the dryer when it's on, for the vibration, might help as well.

maybe its gas? could try infant gas drops. might help..worst case there will be no change at all :/

Well he's still kicking- gave him about 12 cc of electrolytes with a touch of honey. Put him up for the night and he took a good long drink from his crock. I think i will put him out to graze again tomorrow as that seems to help. :) tomorrow I'll give him some probiotics - didn't have any gas drops in the house I'll have to get some.

You're doing all you can. Either it is something he will get over with what you are doing or it is something more serious and he won't. I don't mean to sound callous, but there are limits to what we can do for them and usually a vet trip is neither sensible nor helpful, since many vets are not rabbit saavy. Right now I think he has a chance, but you may need to be prepared to euthanize him if he suddenly goes downhill and is suffering.
