Just got in from 9 days out of town and the girls that were keeping the animals said "Violet had babies!" - do what??? I have had a doe have a litter with no fall off before, but the buck at least had some attempt at some action. She didn't even give the buck a chance! Lesson learned. They said it was at least 7, and it explains why she kept going crazy whenever they put hay in her cage. We finally made it home (had a loss in the family while we were gone so we were visiting before we made it home and they were there as well) and I go out to find hay and fur everywhere with a little pile of babies in the middle (thankfully it was warmer still). Did a check and found 10 live ones! As I was moving them over to a nest box I did find 1 dead one in the corner. Went to toss it out and thought something felt odd. It is completely shrink wrapped! I guess the sack stuck on? Are they normally born that way and the doe cleans them off, or did something go wrong with this one? The shiny is the film, you can see a couple open areas at the rear and on one side.
