I know I've gotten so many great ideas by seeing what others have done on here! One topic that comes up now and then is record keeping, and many have described what they do. Some ideas are best shown, though, so I took pictures of my whiteboard.

This whiteboard was a cast-off at my husband's workplace. It had never been used, and was going to be thrown away. It's a monthly calendar, but I wanted to be able to keep track of several months at once, so I decided to use a line for each month. That way, I have less blank space doing nothing, and I can track five months at a time!

Here's my board before I erased the two oldest months that I didn't need any more:

Here it is with two new months added:

I just have to make sure I leave space between dates I write down, so I can add more if I need to. At first, I kept erasing and moving things.

I have learned that blue dry erase marker is semi-permanent, even with white board cleaner. I've switched to black.

I will be starting to keep permanent records for some things, but haven't decided exactly how.

The papers taped at the bottom are yearly calendars for 2013 and 2014, so I can just look there and count off weeks. Very convenient.

The "Soap Loads" bit is to keep track of how many laundry loads I have used my current bag of soap nuts in, so I know when to change them.

So show how you keep track of rabbitry stuff!

I use a calender for keeping track of day to day stuff and I also use Evans Software's Rabbit Register to keep track of each rabbit.

I use the calendar feature on my cell phone, and then each week go back to log it in my binder. I've learned over time that I get so familiar with something that is static.......hanging up on the wall, that eventually I just walk past it, so used to it being there. The alarm on my phone forces me to attend to it.

I need to go take picts, I have a white board, a calendar, a breeding sheet that goes in my ped binder. Since the laptop crashed, I haven't used any software.

I use a binder for all of my animals ......If I use this way, I would never get it in a book and all would be lost. Pen a paper is my buddy. Good work Miss M

Thanks, Mary Ann! :) I like this, because it's in the laundry/mud room on the way to the rabbitry, so I can see on my way there what needs doing.

Binder pics are welcome, too! :p I know I could use a little guidance on how to keep rabbit records, and I'm sure others on here could get some ideas from them, as well! :D

__________ Wed Jul 24, 2013 12:05 pm __________

I look forward to seeing your pix! :p

what does everyone record in their books? I have never used this method. Before, we have always just used a calendar but I would rather have everything written down so that nothing gets lost (I have naughty nieces and nephews that like to take off info on calendars). I plan on using a book and my computer so that I can access the info wherever I am. Knowing me I will start to mention the simplest little things in them or just ramble.

I have one binder for everything, and then a calendar on the side to keep track of due dates.

My binder contains:

Pedigrees of rabbits currently in the rabbitry (each with a sticky note of the rabbit's genotype on it)
Copies of pedigrees of rabbits I've sold

Breeding record for each doe and each litter, breeding record includes: Name, Ear No., Color, Weight and Owner of both the buck and doe. For the doe there is also a space for; Date Bred, Number of Successful Mounts, Date Kindled, and how many litters the doe has had previously. There is also a section for the kits, I.E.; Number of kits, Color of kits, Gender of kits. Along with all that is a section for notes, so I can keep track of anything I might want to remember or compare to the next litter.

Also in my binder are a bunch of blank pedigrees and breeding record, and an organized bunch of notes on genetics, so basically everything for my rabbitry is in there. I would also like to add another book in keeping track of expenses and incomes.

Hope this helps.

I have Kintraks but also keep a hard copy of pedigrees.

Stuff like breeding records gets put in on the Kintraks and in my regular planner. We have an excel spreadsheet for farm income and expenses.

I'm actually pretty organized :)

Anyone have any good blank pedigrees that can be printed off? Ones that can be used down the road if I wanted to register my rabbits? (so they would need more then just the breed and name of the rabbit)

You are all being very helpful and I love the calendar idea to keep track of more then one month

I print records off http://rabbitsmarties.com/ there are sheets for expences, income, breeding, and show records. There is also pedigree sheets but they arent free. I put everything in a 3 ring binder and write down the records on the sheets. I also keep a my sighned sales agreements in my binder. I think im going to start keeping track of my culles too.

Not sure why but the free record samples will not open for me

Kintraks has a free trial version, it limits you to 60 entries
http://www.kintraks.com/

I used the free version for ages and just bought a copy, good program! you can do pedigrees, keep records and all kinds of good stuff.

i just have a wordpad doc I keep saved and try to keep it saved onto a flashdrive. easy to bring up and check, edit, add to, etc. it reads like a list with dates.
like:

7/25/13 cali bred to NZ buck, covered three times morning and 2 times evening, due date 8/24
8/22/13 put nest in with cali
8/24/13 cali due date

then suppose I get a new bun...

7/25/13 cali bred to NZ buck, covered three times morning and 2 times evening, due date 8/24
7/27/13 new rabbits, NZred doe 9wks
8/22/13 put nest in with cali
8/24/13 cali due date

super easy... I do all my rabbit, guinea pig, and goat things in the same doc.

http://bunnytrade.com/content/free-rabb ... e-template

I use this template. It works well with my computer, which is a plus, since my desktop is 14 years old!

I have a binder where I keep pedigrees, show commentary cards, records of legs, my ARBA and ANDRC cards, the SOP of my breed, a pencil, a line breeding chart, and some misc. showmanship charts. Plus, I keep online records of breedings, such as the # kindled, breeding date, kindling date, # deceased, and notes on nest quality and how well fed the kits were.

Thanks everyone! I will try them all and see what works best for me.

For the first link given I tried pdf and doc but will go try them again

I will be starting to keep permanent records for some things, but haven't decided exactly how

I went to the back to school section at the store and got a 5 subject notebook for the does. And a 3 subject for the boys. Not a calendar. But I wanted to have a section for each animal. To record litter size, color..ect.
