Cali doe had 6 squirming pink babies, one she ate the head off. No nest because she started pooping and sleeping in it and didn't feel anything. When I got a nest and put them in, she started digging, so I've brought them in for the night. First time mom, she would of messed something up anyway, at least they will be safe tonight.

They are on my tummy warming up. One tried to suckle on my wrist, so cute! Cannot wait until tomorrow when I can have them suckle on mom, hopefully! I do have kitten formula, should I just give them that for tonight or wait?

Oh, and Jr, the Cali buck, was out of his hutch. He ran right over to me and let me pick him up. He's always so friendly, crazy escaping rabbits!

Good save!

In the first pic, the middle kit on the left looks like it has a wishbone shaped bruise on it. I think it got scratched.

I would skip the KMR and let them nurse in the morning. Sometimes they will aspirate the milk, so I wouldn't risk it.

Glad Jr. decided he liked you better than freedom!

Yup, you can see lots of little scratches and bruises on the poor things. I don't mess with a doe who digs at her babies, they come inside right away.

First time I had a doe who ate any part of her kits! Wow, that was not cool to see a headless kit.

Jr has always been very friendly, the nicest of his litter in personality and being a little brick. A fur covered brick, lol, that's what I thought when I placed him on my chest, made a face at him, too. =D
He just calmly sniffed my chin and waited to be put back for dinner. He even leans on me with his front feet when I open the door to get his pail. He just cannot wait half a second to get food and doesn't care if he has to hug me for it. =D
Clearly, my fav buck.

I'll wait to feed them in the AM, hopefully, she will have milk.

Partially eaten kits are no fun at all to find. :x

It was probably stuck and she had to pull it out.

Congrats on the popples! Hope mom gets her act together and takes care of them like a good mama should.

The first kit I ever saw was headless. Lovely way to introduce me to raising bunnies...not! :x

Eye lashes!

Yay, more popples! Congrats! The eyelash pic is so cute!!! :D

Good news, everyone!

Took the nest out to momma and she wasn't having it, put her in and let go, she scratched one and jumped out. Waited for a bit and put her in and held her, she wasn't too thrilled about it. Let her hop out about a minute later and let her eat. Came back 10min later and put her in the nest again, held her and this time she didn't wiggle, so I let her go. She brought up her butt so she was in a ball and started cleaning them. Maybe stayed put for 2min and then hopped out.
=)

Went off to snap Mulberry branches for everyone and she didn't go back in to dig, so hopefully, she won't! I'll check on them later when I go get pictures of the other litters, they are freaking adorable!!

Oh, and kudos to anyone who read the first line in Professor Farnsworth voice from Futurama!

I think my Sistah, MSD, is likely right. Either it was stuck and she had to pull it out or it was dead and she was eating it to "clean up". Congrats on the popples!

So far, so good. Was outside playing with the dogs and she would sniff the box, but no jumping in and digging at them.

Glad to hear she is settling down! :D

The eyelashes popple pic is so-o-o sweet!

Left them out for the night, will check on them in the AM to see if they were fed and still safe. In 2-3 days will take new pics, or whenever they fully fur out!

No, she was actually really w/e about me. The AmChin can be a huge pain, she now grunts at me when touching her kits or her when she does have kits in a nest. She either checks the kits or feeds them after I take pictures of them, same with Jasna, her daughter, both check or feed after me touching them. No others do that...

When I had put the Cali in the nest and she stayed on her own, I was leaning into the hutch and watching. I was a bit paranoid about her, she was licking the babies, she stepped on two, I wiggled them free, she didn't run off. Just kept at cleaning them and then switched to her other side and waited for awhile.

They have all moved to the front of the nest.

Well, crap! When kits move to the front of the nest, nest should be kept indoors. Two were ice cold, one of them *may* revive, it was kicking a bit, but that's slowing now. Another was very cold, but wiggling, others should be ok.

They won't be staying outdoors anymore, other than to feed...

Ugh, the kicker quit on me. Down to 4 kits...

__________ Sun Feb 17, 2013 6:03 pm __________

Terrible doe, she freaked out. Yep, house babies now...Can't wait until they open their eyes and start hopping around the couch and watch tv with me!

So sorry you had so much trouble. :( Hope the others get nice and big for you. They are so adorable once their eyes open. :)
