Honey had ONE baby.

One big fat well fed baby.

So, should I put some of Alices kits in with it? She has 8 and is a first time mother. I've not checked yet today to see if any are dead.

I can only put in white or spotted kits that way I know for sure which ones are not hers.

I'm so disappointed! I know Annie will be too. I'm also thinking of re breeding her today to a mutt buck... Since our last two pure breed breedings have resulted in a total of 3 kits, 2 dead (so far who knows about this new baby).

Aww...

If i were me i think i would give her a couple of the babies from the first time mom and breed her back.

Next time she'll be bred to a mutt. I have no idea why she has huge litters when bred to mutt bucks and 1 or 2 when bred to pure breed bucks (two different pure breed bucks on two different litters!).

__________ Wed Dec 18, 2013 7:36 am __________

Well Alice was only feeding about half her kits so I transferred the 4 largest to Honey. They still are TINY compared to her single kit. Hopefully they catch up a bit with a good mother feeding them.

Ummm I would say the bucks are duds. One of the first effects of inbreeding is reduced fertility, I always have better sized litters when the sire is a mutt - or a Mini Lop :D

One of my bucks is a mutt lop! hahahaha! He always produces HUGE litters. However I'll breed her to my larger mutt that produces smaller litters but the kits are larger (better for meat litters I reckon).

The thing is, my 2 Champagne bucks usually have good sized litters, though they tend to be larger when the doe is not a Champagne. I have a doe who just had her first litter, the mom is Honey the dad is Dayna's floppy ear buck, I bred her to the same buck that was bred to Honey for the litter of one, and 8 babies! The Champagnes on this island are on the inbred side, it is very expensive to bring new rabbits in. I am going to keep the biggest female of my 3/4 Champagne litter to introduce a little new blood.
