I have heard people here say they save the fur from old nests? How in heck do you separate it from the hay? I just spent a pretty much fruitless hour trying to remove at least SOME fur from a nest made of hay. I managed to get a couple handfuls in total - I still have a large bag of hay with beautiful fur wound up in it.

I'm thinking maybe using two dog slicker brushes together like when you card wool? (not that I've ever actually carded wool, but I remember seeing a drawing about it in elementary school)

How does one separate rabbit fur from hay????

this is why you save all fur from rabbits that are moulting. Seriously.. save it all. bucks/does/youngsters. Save it all. Protect it from bumblebees who love to use it as a nest start. As long as it's not sticky/disgusting/wet it's good to save and 98% of does won't give a rip whose fur is in the box.

I'm sorry, I missed that issue and have not had it myself. Definitely don't keep THAT hay!
yeah ... he has a little tiny leather paw now. I'm wondering what is going to happen to it. It didn't cause sepsis, doesn't look like gangrene, but I keep an eye on it. It's just tiny and leathery.
