One of my americans had six kits on the wire, and three were on the ground. I suspected she was going to do this because she built the nest on the floor, and covered it with fur. In fact, in my hazy 3 am mind, I almost did not see the tiny things spread among the fur in the cage, and on the ground. Should have put a guard around since she was not in one of the birthing cages. darn it.

Two more are due to deliver, and this morning one of them is chirping almost like a baby chick, but not so shrill. Her ears are not pinned down, and she does not seem real agitated, so I'm assuming it is just her response to labor. She turned ornery couple of weeks ago, but was quite nice today. Any one else have a chatty pregnant rabbit? This is my first.

Well, the first doe had two more on the wire. All four of the REWs are ok so far, and all four of the blue did not make it. Three of them had agouti bellies, too, so I was hoping to see some interesting non showable AM colors. I hope the other two sisters have theirs in the nest boxes.

Good to know chatting is normal for some!

__________ Sat Oct 08, 2011 7:32 pm __________

Only 3 survived for the first doe. And I happened to walk in when doe 2 delivered all nine on the wire. Did not pull a lick of fur, either. I plopped them into the box and covered them with some cotton balls and plucked some of her fur off for them. So far so good. Moved doe 3 to a cage with baby saver wire, so maybe I can get to them tonight before they get too cold. She's not nest making at all either. That's what I get for breeding 3 first timers!
