It appears I have a Satin Agouti in one of the nest boxes. This is the 3rd satin we've had. The other 2 died, so we'll see how this one does. The 2 that died were both from a pairing of my Tort doe (Fern) and my Black buck (Shadow).

I'm not sure whose kit this Satin kit is as I had to move some kits around for fostering. I would assume that it was from my Agouti doe (Wheezy) and that it is one of the kits that I fostered over to my Palomino doe (Ruby). We have never had a Satin out of Wheezy with either buck, but we have also never had an Agouti from Ruby. Both of my bucks and my Tort doe (Fern) and my Palomino doe (Ruby) may all carry the Satin gene (according to the breeder) but do not have a Satin coat.

If you could post a good photo,
it might help. It is possible to get quite
a variety of Satin colors. If the right genes connect
you could certainly produce an Agouti Satin.
A Copper or Red is considered an Agouti.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

I will have to see if I can get a good picture tomorrow.

I tried to take pictures today. Not sure if any of them really show it.

The kit in question is on the right. It is next to an Agouti litter-mate.

Back in the nest box. It's hiding in the back corner, but you can kind of compare the difference in the Agouti's.

The satin genes makes the hair shaft thinner, which is why it makes it look shiny.
