All my rabbits have stayed pretty healthy, but I recently noticed my 5 yr old Holland buck has buggary eyes. No sneezing or coughing, but I know its not right. What is it and what should I do? He has been moved from a cage type scenario to a free range scenario, but is the lone bunny in our enclosed backyard with shelter to himself. All other buns are house in cages up off the ground.

well here are some thoughts:

  • he's in a new area so could be something latent coming out.

he's getting older so it could be a tooth issue

could be a bug of some sort working it's way out of his system.

could be reacting to something in his environment

could be a scratch on the eye OR something IN the eye.

How would I know? It's in both eyes, so it could be environmental, but not a scratch just on one eye. Would you try cleaning it with tea and a washcloth for a couple days and see if it gets worse?

One of our 11 week old growing out meat mutts had weepy eyes the other day--first time we've seen it in any of our rabbits (keep watching for nest box eye but none so far) Not too much time left until freezer camp so we just gave him a few garlic chives and a couple echinacea leaves. Two days later looked them all over and couldn't even find which one had had weepy eyes. I realize there could be various causes and your situation may be different but that was our experience for what it's worth.

I don't have that in my garden, do you get it at the store? May try that and use some ACV to try and boost his immune system:)

Which were what? Lol

-- Tue Oct 13, 2015 7:20 pm --

We love near the Gulf of Mexico, and currently have a toxic "red tide" on our beaches. Many adults are experiencing allergy symptoms from this-wonder of these buns could too?!?!?
