I had a couple of questions about rufus factor. I have seen the +- way of writing it, but I was wondering if a rabbit with high rufus will be a lighter, orangey red or a deeper, darker red. Also, if I was trying to get a brighter red color in my copper's red banding, would it be better to breed to a rabbit with a lighter or a darker red band. Right now my coppers have a decent red band, but I'd like to see it stand out even more and be a little brighter if that makes sense. Thanks for the help.

You want more Rufus for reds, coppers and chestnut/castors to get rich dark reds and less in blues and chinchillas to avoid sootyness.

Statistically if you continuously breeding a dark 4+ to a paler 1+ you will end up with rabbits that are in an in between 2+ or 3+. But, as we all know genetics doesn't always follow the math so you might just get a 5+ :D

Basically keep the richest red kits and cull the rest.

Thanks Dood, so the higher (4+) the rufus the deeper red and the lighter orange ones have more like a 1+ rufus factor?
