She had 7!! They are ALL broken, with dark spots. Grey? Black? Agouti?

Mom's chowing on her greens right now and we left the light off that's near her cage to give her some extra privacy.

The babies are so stinkin cute!!!

Look a cute little bunny butt!!! Lol

-- Tue Feb 23, 2016 9:24 am --

Quick question.. is it odd that they are all broken? I thought a solid bred to a broken would give about a 50/50 solid/broken.
I don't care either way, just seems odd.

You just got lucky. Like flipping a coin usually you get about a 50/50 ratio head and tails but occasionally you get a run of all heads or all tails.

However, is Thumper the sire? If so then he's probably a true charlie (two copies of broken). In that case all his kits will be broken. You would have to do a at least one more breeding to know for sure though because like I said it could have been a statistical anomaly.

Yeah I figured it can be a very slim chance that they could all be broken. I was huge into snakes for years. It was a huge hobby of mine. Mainly worked with co-dom morphs and some recessive. So, I know how the odds gods work :)

As for another breeding, he also was bred to ebony our self black doe. If she has all broken, does that prove he is a Charlie? (Don't know what a Charlie is tho lol)

A charlie is a rabbit who is carries two copies of broken (EnEn). Thumper looks like one as they have less color than a broken with only one copy (Enen).

However, some regular brokens also look like charlies in which case they are called "false" charlies.

If I'm remembering correctly the threshold for proof is actually pretty high like over 100 offspring, but the threshold for "probable" is much much lower. Like 20 I think? I'll have to go see if I can find it.

Awesome, thank you very much for taking the time to teach me and share your knowledge. I appreciate it.
I still plan on getting another male as our males are small and originally just pets :)

Part of me wants to get a male tri or a harlie (I know unless there is a hidden gene that I would have to breed back to dad to see any results) but part of me thinks of I get really cute ones it'll be harder on us to dispatch..

:congratulations:

If your other doe has all brokens, I would be pretty confident that the buck is a charlie.

You are right about the 50/50 odds... I once had two does kindle the same day, and one had 5 solids and one broken, while the other had 5 brokens and 1 solid. I got my 50/50, alright, but it took two does to get it!

The threshold was actually much lower than I remembered it being.

The chart says "mating" but I think that should probably be considered offspring with rabbits lol.

The chart is from

Ebony just finished having her babies about 40 minutes ago. Again all broken. Only difference is Ruby had all dark broken kits, ebony has some dark and some light. I can barely see some light color on them, brown or tan or beige? All with dark eyes.

And again, 7 was the lucky number. Ebony didn't pull as much hair at all!!!! She pulled a very little bit. Ruby pretty much filled her nest box with fur! Is this normal?

And thank you everyone :) we can't wait until they start hopping around like little fluffy pieces of pop corn lol

-- Tue Feb 23, 2016 3:01 pm --

Rubys nest box

Ebonys next box. Way less hair pulled. They are indoors tho, so the babies should be warm enough right?

Ebony looks like she pulled plenty of fur she just may not have been as good at "fluffing" it as Ruby. It's hard to tell from the picture, but if the tufts of fur are clumped together it doesn't "loft" as well.

Congratulations on litter #2!!! Have fun with the little guys! :p

-- Tue Feb 23, 2016 1:13 pm --

One other thing- it looks like there is quite a bit of blood and birthing fluids in the box- you should remove the wet bedding and replace with dry.

Those are beautiful nests. That is the right amount of hair for a good mama to put down. Ebony's box could use a little more fur, you can unwind cotton balls if you think there is not enough insulation.

My mama makes nests like Ruby's and sometimes she gets a little blood like Ebony. You might want to wipe her bum with a towel also.
