Hello! This is not my rooster but I thought maybe someone has a similar experience. This rooster hasn't been walking. It turns out he has a pretty substantial wound on his keel. I advised using beading and saline solution to clean and the use of neosporn painrelief ointment. Is there anything else they can do for him? He eats and drinks. She originally had him propped up in a hammock but with the keel wound I thought thjs was a bad idea and suggested pillows and an added heater.

Should he be given antibiotics as a preventive .
measure?

The first thing the owner should do is to thoroughly check the feet and legs. An injured foot or broken leg could be the problem.

If they seem to be okay, the problem is just possibly a vitamin deficiency. I had a goose once who couldn't walk. Someone suggested giving her some Vitamin B complex.

I was skeptical, but I tried it, breaking a capsule and sprinkling it on a bit of bread with jam. It was like magic. Within hours she was trying to stand and was back to normal in just a few days. We continued the Vitamin B for several days in smaller doses. She recovered completely and outlived all the others -- at least another 8 years.
