No brainer.
But we just started building our cages, after a HECK of a time finding 14 gauge welded wire.
We made all the bases with it for our hanging cages.
Perfect... except for my Flemish... their poop is often too big to go through the wire *smacks forehead*.
So I need 14 G for their weight while hanging (or shelved, I'm sure) but don't love the pancakes! :pancake:
Any clever ideas, or is this just the way it goes?

My rabbits all seem to like a litter box, even prefer it. They will still poop outside the box (some of them poop primarily in the box), but they all seem to vastly prefer to pee in the litter box. This is good because it cuts down on odor (they're indoors). It might help with the poop pancake issue, but if they take to it, you might expect to have to empty the box every few days.

I think it was Dood (?) who started breeding smaller rabbits because even the 10-12lb meat breeders would sometimes poop to large for normal 1/2x1 floor wire.

Maybe something like this? http://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies/Pr ... ctId=20251

Or 1"x1" coated wire? I have some stuff in the floor of an old dog kennel that I've converted to a rabbit pen. It's I believe 1"x1" coated (I think it's pvc coated but not sure). It's heavy duty stuff probably 12 gauge wire before it was coated. It's a third hand pen so I have no idea were the original stuff was purchased. I can't imagine it would be cheap but might be worth it in the long run. I didn't have a real heavy rabbit on it but one of my bucks was in this pen for 1/2 a year and never developed sore hocks.

Hmm. I may have to look into a variant for flooring.

Both of my adult FGs are mostly one spot for litter (my buck is in a dog crate on a table for the moment with just 6" hanging off the table and he always pees over this ledge into the bucket I set below.
I plan to let him have the whole of the rabbitry floor with a litter box.

My original hutch for nursery/ my doe was better and she went 'over the ledge', too.
Maybe I'll just have to move her back to that (the floor is a slatted plastics shelf with lightweight chicken wire over it). The slats bore all her weight, the wire just kept her on top of the slats. It was a little iffy for the kits at 3 weeks but they were fine on it shortly after. I guess I'll get hubby to build some legs under it .

I was just excited to have great new cages LOL they can be used for grow outs and smaller buns.
