OKay, so it looks like my two Rex girls will be going to a show in April--so, that means I will be makig MY first entries--
How do I best 'gromm' their coats beforehand? Iam sticking with a lower protein feed to prevent protein induced molting-- they are outside to help prevent molting caused by heat,
I Know I want to handle daily-- pose pull push, lift etc-- Will stimulating the skin help mkae sure the coat stays dense. will rubbing bare hands help with the gloss/sheen apearance of the Rex coat? or would I be better off with a soft brstle brush tokeep loose hairs from building up>
gonna have to whiten those hocks, too--at least there is good fur coverage-- no issues with sore hock development for these girls,,

Soft brush, baby brush, is OK..rubbings good daily helps keep natural oils thru the coat and any loose fur or dirt out of the coat. Assuming this is an ARBA show...do not use a grooming stone/blade or coat wash, it alters the natural coat. No dyes or plucking hairs either. I've seen it done but rabbits that have this done should be dq'd and not allowed to show per show rules.

Corn starch paste to remove the staining on the hocks okay? All traces will be out at lest a week before the show-- and If I recall, in dogs, the Corn starch will not re-texture the coat unless it is applied as a spray ( don;t ask) I really don't want to jeopardize ANYTHING- this girl came to me though Skystheimit, but has a third person as the actual breeder!

Laurel will be thrilled to see her. She seemed a bit surprised when I told her i wasn't keeping her, but I can't keep as many rabbits as I would like, this is not my house, and still it's better to spread Rex fever, since there are not a lot of us show breeders.

Corn starch is good mixed with some white vinegar...not peroxide though...drys out the coat and a few other things. I've seen a couple try that to experiment and see how it left the coat (peroxide n starch) but err gave a dry slightly stinkie pad.
