Do does retain kits my doe that has three 4.5week old kits all doing really well growing quickly and are happy. I picked doe up today to just check her in a general check over and I picked her up thought she felt fat so I palpated her and can definitely feel kits like they are just about to be born. I thought if she had retained any kits from the litter they would have been absorbed by now? There is no way she has been breed unless her babies did but they only 4 weeks old so that's not possible so I'm really baffled. Will retained kits kill her??

To prevent infection the body often coats retained kits in calcium and they feel like stones in the uterus

I have necropsied does with 1 to 4 "stone" kits of various sizes

OK so what do I do now. Just wait and see what happens with these retained kits.? She is raising 3 babies at the moment. I don't want to have to spend $$$ at vets getting them removed. She is my only breeding doe and kids pet so don't really want lose her. Rebred her??
I'm guessing she won't probably breed after this problem tho.

-- Tue Apr 12, 2016 1:18 pm --

OK so what do I do now. She probably won't be able to get pregnant but she should stay healthy if it is a retained kit and nothing more sinister

You can only wait and see
