That is awesome!

Our shelter requires all cats to be indoor pets or they will not adopt to you. They check vet references and I know of one person who had an indoor/outdoor cat and she got refused because her previous cat was also allowed outdoors, her vet was asked from what I understood and he didn't see it as a problem.

Great description of how to have a working colony of cats for rodent control!
Very nice! I emailed them and applauded their ad, for whatever it's worth to them.

Now, that's just stupid on the part of that shelter!

Finally a cat shelter that lets cats be cats. We had a setup just like that. Five cats, all spayed and neutered to be the mousers and then two dogs to patrol the coyotes. It was crazy how when one of our dogs died, the other stopped patrolling and we lost two cats to coyotes in the week it took us to get another appropriate dog for our home. It's a really good balance to have out in the country. The only thing I dislike about our cats is they leave all the dead bones and feathers in the garage for us to clean up after they are done.

They could add mongoose to that list of things cats can kill. One of mine just killed a mongoose, almost as big as her. :) Good kitty! That's one of the reasons I have 3 cats patrolling our property, to kill the small icky critters. Sadly they also try to kill wild birds. Which makes me very cranky.

I find spayed females are the best hunters out there. Kitty soft paws, our almost 1 year old cat is a killing machine. Anytime I lose a rodent she has it within 24 hours. She likes to put it in the exact spot I step when I get out of bed in the morning... Thanks Kitty...

Cats are the best rodent control, I have 3 :) Even my old blind cat(he has bad cateracts) still gets the odd rodent Kitty misses.
