My 5 month old doe's nipple was bleeding a little bit on the tip the other day and today I looked and the other nipples all have a red spot at the tip of them. Even the top nipple at the top of her chest has a red spot on it. I feel like the glands around the nipple feel swollen almost like when a doe has milk. She's not pregnant. I wonder what would cause this. She has been living in the guest room with a litter box on a carpeted floor for the last week so her conditions are really clean. I hope this isn't the start of some kind of infection.

I ve never noticed this on a rabbit but when my dog comes into heat her teats enlarge a bit and discharge a waxy substance.

If your doe is 5 months old she could be ready for breeding and her hormones are acting up and effecting her whole body.

You could check her vent colour to confirm my theory.

She's the one I put with my spayed buck and I walked in and they where going at it so I know she is really hormonal right now. I hope it is only a hormonal thing or a false pregnancy. It doesn't seem like there is any infection but her glands are even more swollen today- as if she is producing milk. I looked up cystic mastitis, which is the kind that's not bacterial with no infection but is more of a symptom of cancer- I don't think she could have that because she is too young- cystic mastitis occurs in older rabbits. It seems very strange. She doesn't seem sick at all and is very active.

__________ Sun Feb 02, 2014 4:15 am __________

Just Since this morning it feels like her breasts have swollen up a lot- she feels like a doe that is full of milk. I don't think it is an infection- its not hot or sore. She isn't acting like its a false pregancy- not building a nest or anything. She is only 5 months. If it is a false pregnancy would it make it better or worse to breed her? Is there anything I should be doing?
