Hoppy1, I am just starting into the red color but I hear that it is rather hard to get a good, true red out of a breeding. I am going to give it a shot though. I just went to my first ARBA show and I took my red buck. He did get disqualified but that was because he was a quarter of a pound over weight! My girls do the feeding and I he has a rather large feeder in his pen. Everything else was pretty good though so I am hoping that our first litter that is due this week will turn out great! I will let you know.

There's not a lot of them at the shows I've been to but they seem to be competitive if you have a good line and a good start.

I took a jr buck out to show, was the only jr red and recieved 1/1 placement, got good comments on color, fur, type, general width/hq but lacked in the midsection and very light nails. From talking with others and the judge that seems to be the biggest problem in the area for the reds (plus having smutty reds is an issue too but not quite as bad as the nails it seems). Good fur, good type but light nails. While they're not a dq, they're not wanted. Nails need to be as dark as possible all the way down.

SMR - thanks for your post! I want to start reds and your comments are very helpful! I need to go check the nails tomorrow! I am not sure what color my buck and doe have.
