Whatever that black doe brought into my herd.
History: did a trade for a mini rex for a holland lop kit. The holland lop kit didn't happen so got the kits mom. Wasn't given the whole story on this doe when I got her....got that after the fact (lesson learned). Had done business with the gal before so I hadn't worried on it.
That black doe couldn't raise a litter for nothing. her kits would randomly just up and die. I'd hadn't dealt with that before so I was stunned. Put it down to genetic issues. Culled doe and remaining litter. This doe never showed signs of illness...not even one. Her kits did....by up and dying and one kit apparently blew snot in it's new home. I gave them a totally unrelated kit in replacement.
BUT since then... I've had random kits just up and dying for no apparent reason. They die between 4-5 weeks of age. They are literally FINE one day and the next day barely breathing. AND... Now I've had my first ever case of mastitis. And it's like ACK!!!!!
What else will that doe bring into my barn????
It's driving me mad...
I know that I can and will eventually breed this out (or my animals will acclimatize to it) as it's only affecting certain rabbits. But it's just frustrating....
