Our community recently handed out the large, wheeled trash and recycling cans. With lack of access to people's trash, Cleveland's rat problem was about to coming knocking on our door!! Sure enough, two weeks ago a rat moved in to our back yard, dug several tunnels, and was very bold about being seen! Home Depot sells wood finger-breaking rat traps and Saturday night I loaded it up with salami and cheese, stuck it by the rat tunnel, and went to bed. Sure enough, Sunday morning there was a very dead rat who died with the taste of salami on her lips. It looked like a young female and I'm wondering if I should put out another trap in case there is a companion around??? This young rat hadn't had babies yet (we had pet rats and mice growing up) and I'm hoping I don't have to deal with a family!
I butchered 8 eleven-week old rabbits today--one was 5lbs, the others were averaging 4:10. I didn't panic like my first batch in March, but I am at peaceknowing that thanks to RT and the advice of all here, their care was outstanding, their deaths instant, and MANY MANY thanks to Grumpy, their processing was sublime. I was processing one rabbit every 15 minutes until I stabbed myself with the knife and had to go doctor myself LOL!!! Thank goodness for New Skin!!!!!
I am looking forward to Heaven's next litter of kits--she did super well with them and lived with them up until butchering day today!!!
