So now... my does ears are starting to go bald  Shes in a big malt at the moment so at first when there was just a little bald patch on each ear I didn't really take much notice of it. But now 2/3 of the front of her ears are pretty much bald. Not a good look. Also, the skin is quite dry and flakes of allot- kind of like bunny dandruff
I had thought of mites and everything but there are no scabs- unless its different with rabbits?

Is this normal for malting?

Probably parasites and if you can't see them probably mites. Lice and fleas are visible if you part the fur. Quarantine her, take care of her after you're done with your other rabbits and if it's available in feed stores there apply a drop of 1% injectible ivermectin behind each ear as much on the skin as possible. Repeat every 7-10days until symptoms are gone. Watch your other rabbits.

Dutch are sometimes sensitive to ivermectin so treat any rabbits with dutch blood carefully or get a different parasite med from the vet.

Probably but powders often have strong nervous system toxins to kill the parasites and can be damaging to breath in as well so you have to be extra careful with them. I only used them with chickens and we just dumped the powder in their dust rolling area.

A medicated kitten/puppy shampoo might be better. I don't like using those either but they are probably safer than powders as long as you don't let the wet rabbit get chilled. There would be no residual chemicals left for the newborn kits to get in to either. It would be best to get her treated before the kits are born because they will pick up the parasites and are very hard to treat safely at an early age.

I second the diatomaceous earth. I have used it a few times on suspected fur mites. I say "suspected" because everyone always stresses repeating the treatment several times to kill the new mites as they hatch but I have never needed to do so. I see hair growth within a week after treatment.
