Oh my, this has me wanting to butcher a rabbit right now, I would like to try this rabbit pie.
it sounds really good.
I will be trying it as soon as I have somebunny ready to go.

Honestly MaggieJ I wanted to use your recipe but when I wanted to pull it up so I could shop for the ingredients required (because I remembered it used a few things I didn't have) for some odd reason I couldn't get the rabbit talk website to load! So I went searching for another one. I had that problem with several websites yesterday, so I'm positive it wasn't a rabbit talk issue.

I'll be adding some of my dehydrated potatoes (re-hydrated of course) along with some corn to that recipe. I'm going to make steamed broccoli on the side. I've also started a batch of my 50/50 no-knead dough for dinner rolls & have made a Boston Cream filling (it's chilling in the fridge right now) to make a Boston Cream Pie recipe I found (which is really a cake) for dessert.

DH's mom is coming over for Easter Dinner so I wanted it to be a little extra special.

Plus DH has to go into the hospital on Monday for a Cardiac Cath procedure so I want to make sure he has a really good meal the day before just in case he has to spend the night there and has to eat hospital food! :)

The recipe you found sounds great, Carol, especially with your additions. I'm sure your family will love it. Hoppy Easter! :bunnyhop:

There is a book called Food in England by Dorothy Hartley that I love. It's not a recipe book exactly, more a history of English food and preparation, although it has plenty of recipes too. I think it was first published in 1954 but it was reprinted in the 1990's and I was delighted to buy a copy then. I already knew the book from borrowing it from the tiny village library near where we once had a summer cottage back in the Eighties. They had lots of cool old books because they didn't have a big budget and did not discard books after a few years the way libraries seem to do now.

Thanks MaggieJ!

I ended up not adding the corn & potatoes. They didn't re-hydrate properly and I didn't want to risk ruining the pie so I just cooked it the way the recipe stated (without the lemon zest because I didn't have any) and it turned out fabulous! Here's a picture :)

I also ended up making a "Broccoli Gratin" - just basically sauteed onion with the broccoli then put it in a cassarole dish with a mixture of breadcrumbs, fresh parm cheese & olive oil over the top which I baked for about 30 minutes. Yummmy!

And the custard filling for my cake ... well I left it out too long before putting the cake together and it wasn't "set" enough (had gotten to room temp) and oozed out the sides of the cake. Oh well! It was still delish! LOL

Everyone enjoyed it so it was a total success. Mom said it had been about 30 years since she'd had rabbit and she thoroughly enjoyed it! :)

I'm so glad! Everything sounds absolutely delicious and it is really nice that your MIL enjoyed it so much. I'm more concerned with flavour in cooking than form... So what if your Boston Cream Pie oozed a little.

Well, with Easter Sunday tomorrow, I thought I would share the recipe that I plan on using for our dinner tomorrow.

I'm also using a pastry recipe I found on youtube for the crust ...

Hmmm, quick question. What cream are they talking about in the recipe? Whipping cream, heavy cream, cream cheese, sour cream? It sounds really good and I think I can do all that but not sure if I have the cream. Actually, I'm pretty sure I don't have the right cheese unless its cream cheese because I'm out of all the rest of the cream.

Well I was looking for a reason to dispatch a few of these 11 week olds, now I have one, I think I will use sour cream.

I used heavy whipping cream, but I'm sure any type of "cream" would work ... except cream cheese. It was fabulous!

It's definately one I will be doing again! And I'm glad that I had a bit left over, because hubby's news wasn't good today. They're wanting to do a triple bypass so I'm going to let him have leftovers from last night in an effort to cheer him up a little.

My mouth just tasted heaven. This will be used again..and again..and again. And I used milk instead of cream. Also through in some breakfast sausage that we had fixed Easter morning. Instead of just boiling it I pressure cooked it with the onions cut up and thrown in the Pressure cooker at the same time. In the gravy mix it seemed a bit bland for me so I through a bunch of paprika and tiger seasoning in with it and mixed it up. Love!
