Rabbit hutches

I was recently offered four used rabbit hutches i was wondering if i should take them the guy use to raise rabbits as snake food so I was jus wondering if it was a good idead to take them the extra space would grown my rabbit operation from 4 cages to 8 are there any diseases I should worry about

are the cages solid bottom or wire? Also how big are cages? I would not use the hutches if they have solid bottom. Also if large percent is made out of wood the cage will smell and not last as long as wire cages. The rabbits might also eat the wood

From the pics I see of them the cages look to have a solid bottom and they are pretty much all wood

I wouldn't get em..Its harder to clean the cages plus rabbits can get the diesea COCCIDIOSIS . wooden cages don't last long..its okay to use wood as frame but i would use all wire self cleaning cages with bunny boards.

Unless the wood has been sealed which is somewhat expensive and most don't bother the cages are not suitable. They will have absorbed any urine and may carry any disease past rabbits had. Wood is unsanitary, stinks after a short time, breaks down quickly. I wouldn't even suggest wooden frames unless the wood is kept away from the edge of the cage. If it's touching the wire it's going to get peed on and chewed. I've seen pvc used a lot in frames for wire cages.

hey i digg your rabbitry i just brought j clip pliers and 300 j clips now all i need is the wire for the cages i just need a specific type of wire to buy. is an all hardware cloth cage be fine or something else might be better something that might not sag so much under the weight

Don't use hardware cloth. What you want is heavy gauge welded wire. For the floor, get 1/2 inch by 1 inch. For the rest, you can use something coarser, but you may need babysaver wire around the bottom few inches.

thats all the places i know where you can buy 100ft rolls ...bass tends to have the most expensive..bunny rabbit.com has everything ..I would also try tractor supply i bought a 15ft 1x1 inch welded wire roll there.
you can get away with using hard ware cloth for smaller breeds but hardware cloth after time will have hair stuck to it and can cause sore hock i would buy a wire thats size of with and a roll that size of the length.1x2 inch is right size or 1x1 .. also buy some floor wire 1x 1/2 inch works best..you can also use leftover floor wire to build carriers
