This the rabbit i talked about before than when she was sneezing i thought maybe she had the snuffles and the i seen oats under her nose then stopped. Today when i checked on everyone she was sneezing again. I checked her and she had allot of blood coming from her nose and she was cleaning it on her front pawa. I couldnt believe what i say. So i ran in the house to catch the camera . By the time i was able to snap a picture this was only what was left to see. Does anyone knows on what is going on. Is it because she has more oats up her nose and cant get it out.I seen her blow the blood out of her nose.

__________ Sat May 05, 2012 3:29 pm __________

ANYONE?

WHOA!! That's spooky. I've never seen, nor heard, of anything like that. Possibly, she could have sneezed so HARD, she broke a blood vessel in her nasal passage?

Maybe, something's still lodged up in there??? I'm just guessin'.

There is nothing on her nose after this. She cleaned up and that is it so far. Everytime she goes in the food feeder. She sneezes. But no snot.If i wasnt there at that time. I wouldnt of seen this happened. Who knows it might of happened a few times. I guess there is really no concerned. I think there is still something up there. As long it isnt a disease or something. THen i am not to concerned. THanks for your reply.
Just also wanted to add. YOu can see in the picture it is only one side of her nose and the rest of her nose is clear from no wettness ect. Just the blood ring
So pasteuralla is out of the question

Sounds to me as though she had the equivalent of a human nosebleed. Some people (and presumably some bunnies) are more prone to these than others. All the same... If she were mine, I'd separate her from the others while I looked into it more closely.

I saw a rabbit at NASS do that a few weeks back. Something or someone spooked the rabbit in its coop and it bloodied its own nose when it reacted to it.

Not saying that is what happened to the rabbit in the picture, but I cannot say it was at all unusual.

Also, what Maggie suggested sounds likely. Climatic conditions may be such that the nasal passages get dried, then suddenly a nosebleed happens out of nowhere. Saline nose drops usually stop bleeding and routine preventative use can prevent them from happening.

With the warmer weather during the day. I have been opening the sides of the shelter that they are in and the wind blows through allot better. I am really at a lost with this one. Not to sure what to think. I just want to make sure what it is so i dont cull for no reason as she is a good doe.IF i see any snot. She would be culled no questions about it. But this makes me think twice. Also she is due in a week. I will keep a very close eye on her,

Mary Ann, I'd suggest just separating it from the rest of your herd for a period of several days and see if you notice anything amiss with it that you'd normally not expect to see.

i'd get a helper. a GOOD magnifying glass and a bright light. And then I'd give her a solid look over. Check over that nose but good. Check her teeth. Check anything you can about her.

If she is continually sneezing, and now she is sneezing harder and getting nose bleeds, i'd have to seriously wonder just what is going on up there. Oats can be a source of irritation if they get lodged somewhere so it's better to cause her some discomfort and get it out, then it is to continue to just leave it IF that is what the cause of this is.

Mary Ann....I was checking my does this evening and I'll be darned if one of mine didn't have a bloody-nose!! But....we had a heat spike of near ninety degrees. Far too hot for this time of the season. Plus the doe is due tonight. She looked to be "okay" except for her bloodstained front paws and nose. She's a NZW, so it was easy to see the blood.

I checked the pen and didn't find anything that would have injured her like that. But, she could have been horsing around and bumped the edge of her nest box. Seven does due today and tonight and we have the hottest day of the season......Just my luck. Several are first timers, too.

Grumpy.
