I've got a lead on a belgian cross. My son likes the color red, NZ reds appear to be rare as henteeth around here. We're just starting out with rabbits, mainly looking for meat-mutts, but like uniqueness. Although they are all made of meat, belgians are probably not the first choice, but this one has got a little something else in it to "make it sturdier", otherwise I probably wouldn't consider it. Although slow growing, they have a nice long loin, I've got a really stocky satin to cross on it. They would be unique, if nothing else. Any thoughts? Any enablers?

If you actually want to be talked out of it you've come to the wrong place. This is the land of "of course you need some of those".

Sooo....of course you need some of those

When you get "those" we need pics

and pics of any others that might have totally "accidentally" gotten put in the car

My thoughts are:
Stick with Satins!
They are a great meat animal breeder and pet,
and they come in a vast majority of colors and patterns.
Of course I may be just a tiny bit biased in their favor.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

Would love to have more Satins, but it appears I live in the land of the New Zealand cross. You can have anything you want as long as it's solid white and part New Zealand. Not quite ready to ride four hours for a rabbit yet, but I can see where it would come to that real soon.

This is precisely why I'm leaving very heavily towards Satins... I am in it for the dinner, but who can say they don't like to see a nest full of rainbow kits?? I am confident a Satin will find it's way in to my tiny clutches at one time or another, I've heard too many good things about them. But with my space (and time) constraints I can't really afford to have a whole bunch of breeds :( choices are hard!

Well, alot of help, you guys were. Now we've got a Belgian with a little English Spot in her. "Jax" is a pretty little red thing. Alert, but not "high strung". Don't know how the satin cross will work out so maybe we should get a belgian buck, and keep looking for a Satin doe. Is there a twelve step program for rabbits?

Of course you should get a Belgian buck and Satin doe. :bunnyhop: :lilbunny: It is needed. You want one ASAp. Get a extra cage ready. Maybe get two of each. :twilightzone:

Told ya, this is the land of enablers and as far as I can tell, this IS the twelve step program.

Step 1 Go to the fair...
Step 2 Find a cute rabbit....
Step 3 Get two cages....
Step 4.....

You get the picture I'm sure  by the time you get to Step 6 it's pretty much too late, you're done for.
