As most know I wasn't successful with my first breeding with my chinchilla so I put her in a 3/4 acre fenced in so far she doing ok there not planning to breed her any more. But I bred a doe "Anna" awhile back and was due to put the nest box in today so took care of that was not able to palpate her just couldn't get that right. So not knowing whether she pregnant or not like I said I put nest box in with her. Now I put straw in the box and she grabs a mouthful goes around the pen then jumps in box deposits straw comes out and gets another mouthful out of the box and does the same thing goes around her pen jumps in the box and deposit it and does the same ritual over again. My question do you think she is going to have babies? She was bred on April 21 nest box May 19 due on May 22. I think I am correct on the dates. I think this is a good sign but not sure. What do you think?

I'd say she's gonna have babies :) I hope everything goes picture perfect for you an Anna.
That's what I wanted to hear. Hope you right.

She is 1/2 Dutch 1/2 Flemish Giant bred to her brother got any idea how many she will have?

__________ Mon May 19, 2014 12:47 pm __________

Well if she is pregnant that means my buck knows what to do and is fertile. Ye Ha.

After all the activity yesterday no activity today. At least she not setting in the box and using it as a bathroom. But she does like sitting on top of it. Well I am hoping I see something on Wednesday or Thursday morning like little ones. Hoping for 6 but will be satisfied with 4 or 5. Want to keep one back as a breeder. This is a brother sister cross and then I will have a daddy daughter and keep a female from that will give me daddy granddaughter cross. Wonder how far I can keep going with the females keeping one from each generation and mating back to the original stud?

When I first put the box in my does go on a nest building spree - everything in place minus the fur - I usually have kits in the boxes 2-3 days later.

Hard to say how many she'll have - I've had one new doe only produce 4 the first time and then she settled to having litters of 6-7 afterwards. Had another new mom give me 14!! the first time and now has average litters of 10.

There is a line breeding chart somewhere that can give you an idea - but I think you can breed back as much as you want but eventually you may find it will affect growth and litter sizes in a negative way.

Nothing today no fur pulling or straw being carried around. But tomorrow is the expected day by counting, so I guess I have to wait another day. Will take a look again in the morning.
