Queenpup's Silkie chicks

My daughter is going to be showing poultry in 4-H and we have a friend that has started raising show quality Silkies in assorted colors. Queenpup decided she wanted black. She was given these chicks with the promise that she would promote the breeder by passing out her business cards at shows. We brought the little guys home yesterday... so now we have chicks in the house again... <sigh>. They certainly are sweet little things, though, and not to the messy dusty stage yet.

we have 20 or so silkie's we have white, buff, cucu, and black our son is in 4H. i hated them and polish but now we have slikies polish and a friend is hatching some eggs that might be sizzles (silkies X Frizzle polish)

aww. adorable little fuzz balls. i would definitely have chickens by now except that for some reason, our zoning doesn't allow it but i figure, if stuff hits the fan and if it gets to the point when we absolutely need to supply our own food, no body is gonna care at all wether we have chickens or anythin else in our backyard. hey, we have by far the largest yard by far around our area, so we'll probably end up with cows or goats or something

At the tractor store they have so many its been really hard not to come home with chicks after my last two trips.

Awe, they are adorable........posing chicks!! :lol:

We are actually getting chicks this year for the first time ever. Meat chickens......Cornish Rock cross I think. This should be quite an experiment. :lol:

Adorableness, but how did the friend or whoever that gave them tell one is a rooster and one is a hen? Needle on a string?

We are just assuming the sexes. The "roo" is always standing very upright like in the photo, while the "hen" is always crouched down. "He" also spars, and just has more attitude. They are very easy to tell apart by their stance and behavior- whether the guesses on sex are true or not, only time will tell!
