I have read through a lot of the threads in illness and disease searching under 'quarantine' and have teased out a few specific things that are watched for during quarantine. I have a new buckling under quarantine and am trying to determine what exactly I should be watching for.
I have noticed the standard quarantine seems to be 30 days long. Washing hands before and after handing the quarantined rabbit is required. Changing clothes may be an option or a lab coat to wear over clothing to prevent transmission of potential diseases.
While on quarantine, I am watching:
--the new rabbit's eating and drinking: making sure it is doing both and doing it normally (or unusually=trouble), watching it transition from his old food to the new food, monitoring poops for changes in consistency, making sure urination is happening (which indicates water intake),
--it's health: no coughing, sneezing, ear itching, eye boogers, crusties, wet patches, lethargy, or for worms,
--it's behavior: for aggression, for general personality and habits particular to that rabbit.
What else should be watched for or should I be doing during Quarantine??
What do you watch for in particular while your new buns are in Q?
I would appreciate your experience to make up for my inexperience. I have only one other rabbit and am rather new to the quarantine protocol. The new rabbit came from a rabbitry of at least two litters and four adults, so I don't know quite what else to look for.
