My thermometer said it was 96 at 1:30 so I decided to spray down the pens and ground around my new guys first instead of going straight to frozen water bottles. At 96 degrees with no breeze, they were barely showing any problems with the heat. I decided to spray down everything in the backyard anyway instead of waiting for it to get much hotter. It didn't take very long, but by the time I came in, the temp had risen to 99 in about 20 minutes (forecasted high of 103). So far so good with the new guys. Are NZWs just more heat tolerant than Californians? Both my sets of rabbits came from towns from the same region all were being raised outside, but I notice my neutered yard rabbit, also a NZW, the new NZWs can withstand much higher temps before stressing than my Californians. I think they are all more heat tolerant than I am, for sure, lol.

Glad they're doing well in the heat. Could be NZWs in general are more heat resistant or it could be that yours come from a particularly heat-resistant line. Either way, it's definite asset! :)

It depends on your stock. My Cals are pretty heat tolerant, but I cull heavily for that trait. My NZW from TAMUK are almost bombproof, but my show NZW seem to be suffering the most in this heat. I will have to start culling heavily in that line too. I have only had them since November, so this is the first really hot weather for them here with me.
