Feather's kits are 5 1/2 weeks old, and mummy is getting a tad greedy when getting supplemental oats, Boss, etc. She mobs the food, trampling any kits in her path, and digging at them if they have their heads in the J feeder. Even with 2 feeders, things are becoming dangerous.

Hopefully she wont shred the jug in her quest for oats. I expect to see her with her head in there a time or two though.

I tried a small chick feeder, but the silly mom dumped it over trying to get the oats....

Maybe you could wire it down? I have a couple of the long chick troughs as well as one mason jar type... hmmmm...
Why do I find it more appealing to rearrange the furniture in rabbit cages than vacuum around my own?

__________ Wed Jan 11, 2012 8:32 am __________

I was worried about Feather getting her head stuck in the kit feeder, wigging out, and breaking her back or some other equally appalling calamity... so I used a piece of scrap fencing and made a fence to secure it to the cage and prevent access to her. (I save everything... not to the point of "walk sideways through the stacks of newspaper" hoarding, but the "this may come in handy someday" way.) I thought this might be a useful idea for others with ravenous does- the same could be done to block a doe's access to a separate bowl or feeder for kits only. The fencing has 2"x4" openings.

Food can be put through the mouth of the bottle, or the tile top can be lifted and feed placed inside that way:

I removed what was left of the bedding from the wire nest and placed it inside for the kits.

I have found that naming your BunnyBistro and advertising the fare available increases foot traffic. This is "Chez Bunneh" and we offer "Fine Forage"... balcony dining is available when weather permits.

Super cute. I am needing a solution for my babies but I don't think I have a bottle big enough for my nz babies.

Do you have cats? The plastic litter containers look to be about the same as mama sheepdog's. @ mama sheepdog I am so stealing this idea. I never thought I would say this but I hope I need cat litter soon!

"Chez Bunneh" is a litter jug! I usually fill them with cat food, oyster shell, etc.

It's working great, btw. Feather can't get to their food, and they spend a lot of time in there. Feather likes lounging on the tile top- and the kits go up there too! Super cute.

Good! That's why I posted it, after all! :D Glad you like the idea, and hope it works as well for you.
