We have a large breed (mini lop mix) doe that was given to us recently that we were told is pregnant. We have had her for about 2 weeks and can tell that she is expecting kits (she's built a nest and started to pull fur in the last 24 hours). We have also watched her over the past couple days and can see the kits kicking. Yet the previous owner didn't know the exact date she was going to be due but did say he bred her.
Tonight my wife noticed blood in her dropping pan (under the cage). We have never had a bunny this large (maybe 8 to 10 lbs or more) so we don't know what to expect..... Maybe this is normal???
She doesn't seem distressed. She is drinking water and eating hay as I am typing this. When we try to look around her to see if she has been cut, it sure doesn't look like it, so we can only guess that this is the start of her birth process.
Is this normal? Do we need to do anything? Should we be concerned?
Thank you.
