how do you make a harlequin. do you mix a orange with a magpie. Also can I breed a three pound doe to a German giant buck or is that to risky. I would love if you could answer those questions because I really want a harlequin like mus again and then I can make my favorite rabbit color tricolor. And here are the pics.

Chess my chestnut German Giant mix (he is photogenic)

Beautiful buns @Cosima
I think breeding the doe to a larger buck is always a bit risky. If she has a large litter, then it can go well, but if she only has 2 or 3 they can get too large for the birth canal and then you could lose them, and her.

I honestly don't know the genetics of the Harlequin (ej ? ) gene. Anyone else?

A harlequin is A- B- C- D- ej- (it can be <ejej or eje>). A magpie is a harlequin which also has the chinchilla gene <cchd> that suppresses expression of yellow pigment (which is what make the harlequin orange), so magpie is <A- B- cchd- D- ej->.
So you can get a harlequin out of a magpie by getting rid of or overpowering the chinchilla gene., i.e. by breeding the magpie with a rabbit with full color extension <C>. So an orange would do the trick.
Incidentally, tricolor is a broken colored harlequin. Breed a harlequin with a broken black, and you should get at least some tris.
