Betty's kits are one week old today. Last night I replaced some nesting material because she's clearly been peeing in there. I typically just count heads when I check the kits but I obviously had to pull them all out to get the wet nest out. Well one of them was paralyzed from the waist down. I have to wonder if it had been smashed by mama or was like that from the beginning and I just hadn't noticed it. Regardless of what happened I did feel bad that I hadn't noticed sooner. It was fed but not as well as it's litter mates. I culled it and now have 7 of 9 left (one died in the nest during the first night).

Guess I just wanted to vent about my poor little guy/girl.

So sorry you lost a kit. But know you likely couldn't have prevented it. It happens sometimes, despite our best efforts.

*fingers crossed for the rest of the kits*

Don't feel too bad about not noticing sooner. Usually rabbits suffering paralysis are not in pain. It's sad when it happens and euthanizing a kit is never easy but it was the right call to make.
