My high quality mini lop just had a litter of 5 still borns over 3 1/2 days and although it was both mine and her first litter it was hard to watch and I'm debating on getting a dose to have on hand next time. It it a good thingto use in these situations? any experiences? I wanted it to try and save the litter but I also don't want kindling to cause any undo stress to her.

vet time on that one, I think!!! Oxytocin can be tricky-- and if the reason for the stillbirths is something other than lack of contractions-- can be counter-indicated. any animal-- it is best to go thoughthe pregnanacy and labor process in the best physical condition possible-- all the herbals- raspberry, dndelion, etc, provide the micronutrients to help ensure a chemical and hormonal balance-- Starting with nutrition and exercise is probably one of the most important things you can do-- then, you also need a good working relationship with a vet, for the trickier stuff- and you need to make sure the vet is NOT AR oriented--

I have never used it.When i was raising Minilops i never lost a litter.

I lost both litters of Hollands a few weeks back. It happens sometimes, especially with first time mothers. I would not recommend giving it to small creatures like rabbits, and like Frosted rabbit said, the case may not warrant it, and it can actually be dangerous.

Oxytocin can cause uterine rupture...I would be very hesitant to use it unless I was very experienced with it or on the advice of a vet. Most rabbits deliver fine without help, and a large percentage of first time mothers lose their first litters for one reason or another....

I have used it. Not very often and i try not to. IF i think there is a dead one in there and to save the doe i will use it. I have hand a litter where it takes two day for them to have the babies and they might just have 2 to 3 and all big ones. BIgger than normal. If you know mom is in stress after 3 days past due. Then use it. But you have to weight her first. YOu have to make sure you use the proper amount. Depending on the situation of the due. Some of them you dont breed again.
Holland lops are known not to have live birth on the first litter.

Also, if you are concerned about her ability to kindle, the meat rabbit group recommended that I give a calcium fruity tums the week due ... one doe will leave it in her bowl until the day she kindles then scarf it down. The other doe will nibble on it over a couple of days. Either way, it is there if they need it.

the first baby was big and the vet said it was "the cork in the bottle" but all of them had started to decompose. I'll try her once more with out and see how it goes.

In this situation you use it. You could of lost her. She is very lucky. YOu should never go over 3 days pass due.
IS she eating ok?

She just went back on feed today, everyone kept telling me it was just first time jitters but I did have a bad feeling about it.

they do go off their feed when they are closed to kindling, so I am told. But I have never had one go off her feed yet.

Mine go off their feed for a day or so before kindling ... sometimes it is the pellets, sometimes it is the oats, other times, it is the hay ... never know one time to another  Changeable girls I got here

I took her off hay and she's still not finnishing her 1/2 cup of pellets. I'm giving her 2 fruit loops a day too, to try to put some weight back on her and she's eating them.

Most of the time, you don't go off hay, you go off pellets, give hay and oats and maybe some BOSS.

A local show breeder told me that if the fill up on hay they won't gain any weight but that hay will correct any loose stools. I need to find some where to get less than a bag of BOSS. The Fruit loops are supposed to add a little fat too. I'm new to the breeding game but I'm a sponge of info when it comes to critters and a book/ net worm to boot. I bet I have more tricks than alot of seasoned breeders, it's just confusing finding out which ones actually work, lol.

yes, they will not gain weight with hay, But never never take hay away from a rabbit. Hay is very important . IF your rabbit needs to gain weight. Maybe look at other issues. Like what is your protein level on your pellets?Give a little sunflower seeds instead of froot loops. what ever that is. I think that is cereal. NOt good.Make sure you dont breed her. And if she still has problem putting on weight. I would deworm her. But she needs time to put on weight after having a litter.Hay is very important to a rabbit ,never take it away.

I would stay away from the Foot Loops too- too much food coloring and refined sugar, and I really don't see how two pieces would help very much. That recommendation probably stems from the grain content in cereal, but it would be better to just give her about 1/4 cup of plain oats- old-fashioned kitchen oatmeal works well but is expensive if you are feeding a lot of rabbits, in which case buying 50lb bags at the feed store is more economical. If you don't have that plain cheerios, shredded wheat cereal, or dried whole grain bread would be a lot healthier than Froot Loops. I have never fed cereal to my buns, but I have given them dried bread. Parsley is supposed to stimulate the appetite, so if she is still off her feed I would give her a few sprigs of that, more if she is used to getting fresh greens.

I feed mine's more hay than anything else, and all of my juniors made senior weight, and my 10 week old kits were 3.5-4lbs, which is quite nice for Rexes. They will gain weight, albeit slower.

My local feed store sells BOSS by the lb, it's just some litter mom and pop store in the middle of the hood.
