I'm sitting here at work eating a Florida Navel Orange a co-worker purchased from a street vendor. It is sooo good. Then, I thought...would my bunnies benefit from and enjoy oranges? Small amount I'm sure, but ??? I read somewhere about feeding them the peels...well washed first I'm sure.... (no emoticon eating oranges unfortunately).

I read somewhere that eating the peels can give them seizures...I have never been willing to risk it ~shrug~

Seizures? I had not read that. I saw one post here about feeding the peels without a problem. Saw other online sites saying 'yes' others saying 'no'.... I won't feed it until I hear from someone hear that it is safe....

I believe citrus of any kind is not good but I don't know why.

Where I live it's definetly on the no-no list.. but that may be because oranges around here is so full of toxics and whatnot to keep them fresh during transport.
I don't see rabbits and citrus going well together though..it's so..I dunno. It might just be me..

Well I have orange, tangerine and grapefruit trees. I love the fruit and I always save the peels for the bunz. We don't spray the oranges so they are not covered with any pesticides. I wouldn't feed commercial peels to them but most of them think it's a BIG treat. Each rabbit gets about 1/8 of an orange peel or 1/4 of a tangerine. They even relish the grapefruit peel. I don't feed more than about once a week.

Don't know if it's bad for them but my all eat oranges, grapefruit whole. The other day I was eating an orange and toss the peel in the pen. One rabbit was grabbing peels with her teeth from another rabbit's teeth.
