Here are 4 of the First Five. I'm including both a side profile pic as well as one of the hindquarter on each of these rabbits. There are 2 does and 2 bucks, and I will likely be hanging onto 2-3 of them total.

Just looking for some honest feedback. My feelings won't likely get hurt, but lets keep it civil and meaningful:

The first one is Phoenix. She's not a bad specimen at all:Phoenix profile.JPG

This next doe is probably my overall favorite. Her name is Kelly and she's very nicely proportioned:

Okay, now to the bucks.

This first one is Nikita, originally referred to as "The Nestbox Clown" and more recently known as "Grand Master Sex Change". He's not lacking in character, that's for sure:

This last one is Magnum. His fur will likely not come along until late 6-8 or early senior showroom age, but he has the overall best body type of the 3 bucks in the litter:

I like the last buck, nice shape...and the second doe, to me she just seems more filled out.

Phoenix to me looks like she has more depth and fuller loin though maybe pinched in the hindquarters a little.
Kelly to me looks like she lacks depth and many be a bit hollow in the loin.
Nikita to me looks long in the shoulders.
Magnum I like.

Though I could be wrong too

TW, I'm guessing that there probably won't be a double show I'll take those two does to when one won't beat the other once, only to turn right around and lose to the other one in the next show. They're both stronger than the other in certain areas. I'll likely end up keeping both of them.

As for "Grand Master Sex Change", that pic doesn't do him justice. I couldn't get him to pose properly, but he is a little late to start over the shoulder and into the back.

And if I could just get Magnum and Phoenix to keep their feet out of their waterers. That vitamin electrolyte mix is staining their front feet. LOL!!!

lol I know what you mean! one judge like this one and the next judge likes the other.

Yeah, right? The last Missouri show I attended, the differing opinions for the same rabbits came from a husband and wife who were both judges (and the differing opinons were on more than one rabbit!)

I don't know much about satins, but I like the first doe for depth of loin too, and the last buck for the same reason...I guess you can tell what I think is missing in my own rabbits!

Don't know how I missed responding to this one.

I'm inclined to agree with you. Magnum will be an ongoing work in progress, while quite frankly, both of the does are nicely developed (at a mere 10 weeks of age, no less) and will probably lose to each other as often as they beat each other.

Kelly just has that look to her, but honestly Phoenix has an undeniable steady rise that a few judges and many breeders just get all gaga'd over.

Ya know what? While type constitutes 45 points in the overall scoring for Satins, judges give much more credit than that to the rabbit with good sheen. Often times, it doesn't matter that their coats are flyback (which is a serious fault, BTW). Give most judges the choice between an average body typed rabbit with good sheen, or one with great type and an average coat, they will choose the one with good sheen nearly every time. The funny thing is that sheen in and of itself fits into a category which only is worth 30 points max.

I know that doesn't add up, but the normal response you'll get out of the judges who go with the coat is "That sheen is what makes a Satin a Satin". It has credence, but the total picture is ignored, and that hurts the breed when the BOB rabbit goes up for BIS against other breeds. The very thing they ignored (type) in the BOB selection process is the same thing they fault the rabbit for in the BIS selection process.

__________ Sun Jul 03, 2011 11:28 am __________

Well, looks like the concensus of the survey on the above pictures was pretty much spot on. Magnum consistently placed just ahead of Nikita in all three shows, and Phoenix beat Kelly in all three shows as well. Magnum and Kelly actually won their classes in one of the shows.

Nikita and Kelly will both get there, not a doubt in my mind about it, but Magnum and Phoenix are both going to be difficult to beat if/when they come into their coats. I may very well try and send 3 of the 4 to convention this year if I can find a ride for them.
