Bride is getting fat. Not okay pregnant fat, but I'm a huge lazy beast fat. I picked her up yesterday and while I didn't try and stuff her into the tiny baking scale bowl, I would be shocked if she weighed anything less than 12 pounds. The day I bred her, on her 8 month birthday, she weight 9lbs 11oz. Even when she was pregnant with the nine kits she was never this big. The problem is normally I would cut back her feed and if that wasn't working cut back her hay too, but she's nursing 13 kits right now ages 14 days and 10 days so they're eating a lot. I don't want to hurt her milk supply but I know fat rabbits are not healthy rabbits. I was thinking about taking away the suppliments, the oats and the BOSS first to see if that helps. What do you guys suggest? She's been such a great mom so far that I definatly don't want her to loose fertility because of excess body fat.

If she is getting visibly fat in spite of nursing two sets of kits, then she is eating more than she needs. I'd cut her back slightly on everything but hay and reduce the BOSS to twice a week. Just what I would do... Others may have different advice.

I agree with MaggieJ...she may not need the supplementation. She just may be an excellent milker and able to handle it without a lot of extra calories...

boss is used for our horses to put on weight, and does an excellent job at it, so i would cut out the boss entirely, for a time. don't cut back the hay; it will help her lose the weight.

Okay, so the oats should be okay then. I'll go back to her pre-kindling portions with the addition of the oats and see if she starts looking a little better. Between the extra weight and the heat (mid 80's all week) she seems to spend all day stretched out across her cage floor.
